Collectible 2022 at Vanderboght Building, Brussels.
Materiae, from Latin, is the origin of the word material, matéria, in Portuguese.
The collection is a tribute to the Atelier’s main raw material, hardwoods. This word itself has the same etymology in Portuguese linked to materiae, madeira.
We work these hardwoods in an unconventional way, reusing them, revealing something beautiful that to unskilled eyes could look like garbage or waste. In this way, there is no destruction, no tree is cut and what would become rubbish turns useful.
The core of our work is based on searching and collecting old hardwoods beams, flooring structures and other wood based construction materials that were largely used in the past. Some of these constructions are in ruins, completely damaged by weather and time.
This rediscovery continues when this raw material arrives at the Atelier, where a transformation starts. Soot, nails, screws within uncountable wreckage must be taken off before a new project takes place.
After the sorting and cleaning, the material is in ways to be radically transformed. What once was pale, sometimes carbonized and always forgotten, becomes vibrant, full of life and unveils a unique and deep beauty.
Rise again in its greatness to share history, emotions and feelings.
Materiae, made with soul.
Reentrâncias, Esquadro and Rupturas are Floor Lamps designed to enhance the beauty of its materials and tell the stories of its process.
They have a strong LED light of 9W being extremely useful for enlightening spaces also because of their built-in magnets, allowing its light bulbs to be positioned all over the metal surface, creating several possibilities and a playful lightning atmosphere.
Ruídos, Graminho and Reticências are Table Lamps with the same purpose as the Floor Lamps but with a little less intensity with 6W LED light.
First exhibited at Collectible in Brussels this May 2022, they compose Materiae, an exclusive collection of 6 sculptural lamps, each in a Limited Edition of 10 pieces only.
